what are peoples oppinions of a supra 5spd conversion for an xf, and more importantly the box itself? ive notice the ratios are slightly shorter than a t5, but theyre supposadly a stronger box??

The N/A boxes (W58 or W59 I think) are a waste of time, you'd be just as well off with a T5 or a Toploader. The R154 Turbo boxes are VERY strong and capable of as much power as a T56.

The supra boxes are very good boxes. Nice smooth shifts, close ratios.

If you're up to it, and want to spend a bit of time getting your hands dirty, you can get a celica box. They are exactally the same except for a thrust washer. In the celica box it's brass, in the supra box it's steel.

Supra boxes are good for around 400HP.

well its cheap enuf, and hands dirty?? my hands are never fkn clean lol...

will prolly end up giving it a shot not sure what model supra its from or what model the box is from unfortunately.. it has to be better that my 3sp auto

lol..

1) you have a modified XF alternator, not EA alternator :roll:

2) get a manual any manual, as long as its a manual.

3) T5 might have shorter gears, but the supra box has closer gears

4) its jap, must be smooth.

5) manual, lol.

nah mate its a modded ea alternator,, theres more ea parts in it than xf, therefore its an ea alt lol.. just coz it has an xf reg and casing....

Exactly mitch, go for it. If it's cheap and your willing to do it yourself it's bound to be better than the old XF's auto. And if it dont pan out you can always try a T5 or a Toploader :)

ok its going ahead.. assuming a few things fall my way,, i should be doing burnouts tuesday afternoon.. i mean wearing my clutch in.. i mean.. yeh burnouts.. lol

the turbo boxes are stronge.

i'll be using one with my turbo setup.

and my boss is using one with his turbo toyota V8 commodore

the only thing that f**k a manual gear box is dumping the clutch to do a banger...

you can have as much power as you want but if you are going to abuse it by throwing massive loads of shock on the box, no matter what you have you will always break it.


if you want a box that is indestructable go for a tremec but it will set you back a fair wack or the wallet

I agree sickd, if I went all out and turbo'd a six it'd have to have TR3550/3650 or T56 at least, but the R154 from the Supra's are a Getrag 6spd, so they're more than comparable to a T56, and the W58 n/a box is probably stronger than our native T5's so either way, for a n/a XF I think he'll be pretty right.

I am interested.

Supra 6 speed = Stronger than T5?

Supra 6 speed = cheap?

IS this difficult to fit into the falcon, I have read in another thread somewhere that this was easily done. Expensive or not?

Although I have no real $$$ value on the Supra boxes, I know for certain the 6spd R154's wouldn't be cheap. But I'm sure as hell they'd be cheaper (to buy at least....fitting no bloody idea) than getting a T56.

Depends how much mod work you'd need to do in the bellhousing/tailshaft/crossmember areas to fit the Supra box.
