Hey guys I have original EL GT mags on my XR8. I am having problems with the right front tyre going down slowly. Say from 40 PSI to 20 PSI over a week or two. I took the tyre to the local tyre guys and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They suggested that maybe I replace the valve with a new rubber one. I don't want to have to do this as the ones on there are metal / chrome and I don't want to lose the originality of the mags.
Anyone know if I can get new original style valves for these rims from anywhere? Or any suggestions about what I could do to fix this?

what do you mean by "metal/chrome"?
are they fitted with stem covers, or are they bolt in valves?

The bolt on ones are available (or they used to be) from sprints, s**t, and repco aren't they?

the bolt in valves are available from any half decent tyre shop..... i'm in the middle of nowhere and i can get them at my local tyre shop!

Can you tighten them? Mine was doing a similar thing and i just tightened the nut on it.

They have hexagonal caps on the top. I will try to get a picture of them tomorrow for you if I can. I am in the city for a couple of days so I will ask around at a few tyre places and see what they reckon.

its got hex valve caps??? they're like foreskins..... quite a common aftermarket dress up accessory
are the valve stems themselves rubber, or are they a solid steel item?

Here's a quick pic with my camera phone. Do they look like bolt on valves? They are steel with a rubber ring at the base between the mag and the steel valve. If they are the bolt in ones do I have to take the tyre off of the mag to tighten them? Do they look like easy to get / common ones? Yesterday I pumped it up to 40 PSI and went on a 300km trip, when I stopped it had only 30 PSI in it.

no, just take the valve cap off, slide a deep socket over the valve stem onto the nut holding it in, and try screwing it up a lil tighter
if the seals are f**k, just either replace it with a new bolt in valve, or replace the seals if your local tyre shop cant get them, go elsewhere

It is hard to see on the pic but there's no nut on the actual valve itself it is just completely round the whole way until it goes through the rubber type grommet thing. I will have to get it checked out over the next couple of days while I am in the city. Thanks for your help guys.

The nut is on the inside. You may find that the bead of your tyre is not seated cleanly to the rim and this causes what some call a pressure leak (it leaks while you are driving). Have the stripped off the rim, make sure the rim is clean and have tyre refitted using mounting wax NOT SOAP. O and check the seals on the valve stem while the tyre is off. I have seen and fixed this type of leak many times.
