hey all, just doing up my motor and i picked up a set of extractors from lukey something from this forum i think, and they were a lil dirty ect and i was looking to paint them to keep them looking good, i have been told that engine enamel will just melt off, where as i have been told that there IS exhaust paint you can get. does anyone know if this is true? and if it actually works?
i believe the extractors are stainless, but its too much effort to get it shiney. i have the HM 102SS

i have painted my bikes pipes with a VHT flame proof
black can, not gloss a matt finish 2 weeks and soo good so far BUT u have to CURE the paint before u install them by getting the pain hot OR u will loose the paint off the pipes ( foudn this the hard way susposedly this is good for 1500 deg

yeah ya heat them up with a blow tourch or something, not red hot off course just warm so the paint doesn't buirn..

Guys are you sure this is right? I though curing paint was to bake it after it was applied?

i painted my exhaust with VHT engine paint, i didn't even bother cleaning it or preping prior to painting (and it had been fitted to the vehicle for soem time), it's still on there.
I've painted extractors before with VHT paint and no dramas. |

well they are currently off the car... so i wanna clean them up real nicely. i wanna find some acid stuff to clean it up really nicely

Paint it first, let it dry, then fit on the car, then follow the directions on the can.
Will be like, "run car for 10 minutes, then let cool for 10 minutes, then run car for 20minutes, then let cool for 20 minutes." My advice would be to wrap the pipes up in exhaust wrap before fitting to the car, better flow, and less heat in the engine bay. |
