Hey guys,
I have an el xr6 turbo just had a new clutch put in and its a fair bit heavier then before so i thought i better strengthen the pedal box before it bends. had a look and i think it has already been done??? can anyone tell from these pics? do they have an extra plate from factory like this? the picture is really blurry im sorry but any help would be awesome!

It's not factory, as the car is manual and turbo putting it the "performance" category, there is a good chance the previous owner was aware of the pedal box problems and has done this.

That looks like a piece of sheet metal has been tack welded in, hardly enough to make any scrap of difference imo. can you get a look on the other side? this may have been a repair job. check for cracking around the pin itself and take a pic if you can mate. Also have a look around where the clutch cable goes through the firewall and see if there is damage around there.

i did get a look at the other side and it looked like a few tacs (hard to get photos) had been put in but pretty hard to see as its a tight spot. The firewall is fine, no plate as yet but will be making one up for it shortly
thanks for your help! also can anyone confirm if a ef diff will go straight into my el?

I dont think you will have any problems with fitting a EF diff in your EL. Its a problem if you want to use a boxcar one I think. As you dont have the brackets for the hand brake cable on the boxcar one. and the brakes are not the same aswell.

That pedal box is the factory revised one. Definitely NOT a strong unit, though it is better then fords original effort.

Pretty lame effort really is'nt it the only difference between that and the original is 3 spot welds and on the revised one the plate wraps around the box as can be seen in the pic. On the original the plate was flat and half the size |

thats f**k up mate.
Twindogs I would suggest ya do something with it, you dont want to be standard because your pedal box has broken. |

looks like someone has made a lazy half assed attempt to strengthen it.
This is my old one compared to the new one i bought to replace it this is how its been stregthened as you can see a big thick plate has been welded to the side of the pedal box and a hole drilled into that plate directly behind the clutch pedal pin. This hole was filled with weld making it one with the solid steel plate. I dont think its going to break anytime soon
