twason wrote: Mal Wood pin mod information says just remove one side of the pedal face on the Auto brake pedal to make it a manual or just swap over the pedal you already have. Yeah, handy to know.

It might pay to hold off on ordering the shaft. I picked mine up today and it appears to be the brake shaft, even though it was grouped with the clutch bits....
I will check tonight and see if it can be cut down for the clutch.

let me know if it works,
I rang mal wood yesterday and he said you can't put in a manual pedal box without removing the dash. their clutch pedal pin is $65. proably a good buy. |

twason wrote: It might pay to hold off on ordering the shaft. I picked mine up today and it appears to be the brake shaft, even though it was grouped with the clutch bits.... I got my clutch pin today - the part no is EA7506A, cost just over $10.
I will check tonight and see if it can be cut down for the clutch. The brake pedal pivot shaft can be cut down - the section that the pedal fits over will match for a clutch pedal pin - the groove for the retaining clip is the same. Insert it parallel to the original brake pedal pivot shaft, put some decent stock between them and weld it all together. Have the cut down brake shaft end around halfway along the original brakeshaft and do your welding around that area - this so you can still move the assy to the left to remove the brake pedal if required at any stage. You can also drill a hole through the original brake shaft inside the left mounting hole - perhaps use the EF/EL brake switch retaining clip - this holds the assy in, and is easy to unclip, move the assy to the left and remove the brake pedal. The existing setup has a clip on the RH side that's very difficult to get to - the airbag module is in the way, and it too is very difficult to remove without pulling the dash. I would think using another cut down brake shaft would be more stronger than using the pin welded in with reinforcing on the sheetmetal. I've never seen a Mal wood pin - is it similar to what I've described ???

Good work Snap, is the partnumber EA7506A the correct part for the clutch shaft?

Yes it is Tony (I'm looking at it as I type this ).
As I say, it might be a better option to use the cut down brake shaft - an option I suppose. Let me know if you need the dimensions of the clutch pin. I'll have a go with my auto box - I do have a spare clutch pedal, and the welding on the box in my wagon looks dodgy - since I have to pull the dash to fit a PAB, might be the right time to do it.

Thanks SNAP, I will wait until I install it to work out if I need it. In the mean time I will do a search and see if there is anything on the differences between EA-ED and EF-EL pedal boxes.

Has anyone got a photo of a mal wood clutch pin, if so please put it up.
A photo of your modified brake shaft would also be useful |

Well I have done some research and it looks to be that I have an EA-ED pedal box not an EF as expected. I am starting another thread on what is different and what to do about it.

snap0964's method is terrific as it much more sensibly distributes load than the factory design or even the Mal Wood option (which is pretty much similar to factory except doesn't need welding to fit).
I've got a new box on the way as mine has started to collapse - I've currently got the Mal Wood pin and was just going to heavily strengthen round the hole and that side of the box in general but now I'm going to definitely go with the second shaft idea - huge thanks snap0964
