Ok. Well I have a 92 eb spac.
I have pedders red springs. 2180's? In the rear.
The problem is when the car goes on a 2post hoist or one with the chassie lift, when the wheels and diff drop the springs stay in the top mounting.
When it comes back down the springs sit forward of their base cup.
I noticed this as soon as I put them in.
Since then I've been lowering the hoist till the wheels just touch and bottom of the spring line up just with the rubber base bit. Then slide under and pull the spring into position and it should stay holding position against the rubber.
Then let it down.

I did try driving with them for a day and the rear sat higher and rode stiffer. Wasn't nice.
So anyone with pedders reds check that out.
It could probably lead to premature shock failure.

You might need shorter shockies by the sounds of it.....like Commo's from the 80's...springs fell out if the shockies weren't short enough...eg: FE2 springs, but std shocks.

thats what you get for only doing a half job. springs and shocks need to be matched.

when I replaced my springs I replaced the shocks with shortened ones at the same time, Its like rebuilding a motor you wouldn't use oil that only done 2000k in a new motor just because its only done 2000k just buy new shocks and sell the others to someone that may need a pair. it will only give you hassles otherwise.

I lowered mine with peddars low springs mate, rode around on standard shocks for a little while (maybe a month) but then upgraded to the Monroe GT Sport (which is a shortened shock), best thing I ever did, car handles soo much better than before, just need some beefier sway bars and I will be on rails!

Definitely worth the investment IMO

If you dont use a shortened shock your going to kill the shock. it will be punching hard at the end of its travel, instead of using all of the available spring travel. Will also be giving a harsher ride. If youve had them in there for more than 4 weeks or so the shock will almost be useless.

New Shocks will only cost you around $140 for the pair and a half hr or 2 to fit

When you change the springs change the shocks to match damn it. dodgy shortcuts like that makes it harder and harder to modify our cars with new laws created to combat backyard workmanship from impatient blokes who don't do a thorough research.

Here is what could happen. you get into an accident, the police and insurance company jacks up the car for a thorough inspection and what do they find?... a collapsed standard height shock with springs that appears to short, from that alone they can create scenarios for the assessor's final inspection report. all they need to do is narrow it down and agree on the possibility. e.g. if it wasn't for the suspension defect, this bloke would of been able to controlled the car and avoided getting into a pileup. you know what I mean?

in all fairness, its only a 30mm drop with those springs, so they should be hardly wanting to fall out shift around etc with standard shocks

Sounds like they may have been cut, or the wrong shock is in there.

heres the problem. You go over a decent bump, or rail track, or anything like that and when your car comes down the spring has left its seat. Your car no longer operates as if its got springs at the back.
From here your scenarios are endless... and none are good.

There are shortcuts you can take, but this one, frankly is stupid.

Agreed with Phil, I had some cheap Ebay shortened shocks the ride was crap to say the least. upgraded to Monroe GT Sports and the difference was very noticeable. well worth the extra coin! 8-)

The police crash investigator and insurance assessor don't see that way I'm afraid...

When I bought my superlows for my AU the guy at Pedders said he wouldnt sell them to me if I didnt get the short stroke shocks as well. So I did and never regretted it, made the car so much sharper than what it would have been. For an extra $170 and maybe 30 minutes extra work, its definately worth doin it properly. Besides the safety aspect, you'll appreciate the transformation of the ride more than anything.
