i have a 1992 nc fairlane v8 have just got the second hand gearbox in a few weeks ago, its running ok but it seems like it doesnt have the pull onit like it use to when you put your foot down .. it kicks the revs up sometimes straight away but sometimes its like you have to time it right to get the full kick down spot its weird what is this ? or could be ? what should i be checking ? need help

Check your accelerator cable isnt stretched. That will cause obvious power loss symptoms.

Accelerator cables always stretch after a while.

And its only happened since the box was changed?
If so it would have to be in relation to the new box i.e the box itself or maybe the ecu is in relearn mode?

do i tighten it or do i have to replace it ..if i can tighten it how do i do that ?do you know anything else that can cause it ? just want to know so i can check everything out tomorrow

If the box is slipping you will hear it revving and not moving..

If it was slipping you would get rev's between gears ( like your foots on the clutch of a manual). If it was done by a mechanic, take it back to them and tell them to fix it. If you did it did you do a fluid change? Also, how long ago was it done? Have you tried manually pulling it back into 3rd to see if the problem still occurs?

na it doesnt slip it picks up sometimes then it wont pick up when foot down then if i ease off then put foot down again itll pick up allgood its like i have to pick the right time to do it but i never had to previously

na it doesnt rev between gears when i pull it back down gears from drive it seems to pull like it should its only in drive as far as i can tell its like i got to pick when it'll kick revs up or not but i never had to before gearbox change .. when i had my old gearbox in there before it stuffed out i could plant it anytime and it would basically staight away kick revs up an go

Its possible the car is relearning but then time will tell if thats the case. OP has not said battery was disconnect etc for me to think that. If so well then the car needs to be driven for a while until it works itself out.

i have disconnected the battery for half a hour then reconnected it after everthing was changed and put back in
