Ok i know it is a Holdun but this wheel blew me away.
I have previously mentioned this a few weeks ago but I have just downloaded my phone picture so here is the scary evidence.

My mate had this happen at 100kph driving home a few weeks ago. when the rear wheelcracked up and feel apart..

The holden dealer told him it was not their problem as they thought he had hit something on the road due to some visible damage on the front wheel as well???

I was astounded by their brush off. this was a potential killer.
I have seen a number of "sexy rims" cracked up at the wreckers from accidents. Really scary. Did the damage cause the accident or did it result from the accident? Either way the wheels were weak as piss.

so now he has these new 22" rims

That is just astounding. HOW did you say it happened? Just driving along at 101km/h and the rim fell apart? What is truly amazing is that the dealer saw fit to brush it off as his fault. And where is the cellphone pictures of the "front wheel damage"??? Stuff that.

My wheels are heavy, and I am now thankful for that!

Isn't Holden bankrupt yet?
Why are they still in Hamilton? Wouldn't the receivers consider being in Hamilton frivolous waste?

I'm surprised they'd even investigate.
Surely they're not factory rims¿. (I may be wrong)

Thats the price you pay I guess having wheels for looks instead of practicability.

Maybe they're an "option" as supplied by the dealer, which is why the owner of these pathetic wheels took them back there?

There would be no way anyone in their right mind (or left mind even) would take a product back and complain about it to someone they didn't buy it from. Surely....

I cant believe how thin the rim is, looks like the pressure of the tyre just peeled the rim edge away. If they are factory rims they should look into it further. If they refuse contact the ACCC with the images. This could be a serious safety concern for others with the same rim.

They are Holden optional GTS 20" wheels from the Holden dealer fitted to the car when new.

These wheels cost him about $4000 extra.

The guys has loads of money I was astounded ho took it no further..... and just decided to get 22" rims instead.

did someone say Today tonight?

I said to him what if your girlfriend was driving and it was the front wheel that shattered???

Oh and get this. He bought the SS ute to replace a nissan navara he rolled 8 a year ago. you would think he would have steam issuing from his ears. I just think he was so damn lucky he could have been killed.

I agree Joolz the wheels are way too thin and should have some sort of ribbing for strength. I know with the Aussie made LWT Director rims I have had before and just got another set, these wheels are super strong. I have hit train tracks hard and the rim showed no damage even though the tyre was pinched. The original equipment and optional Ford rims all appear very strong. I have seen many aftermarket rims that worry me with very few and ridiculously thin spokes. These designs will collapse under heavy loads or even minor impacts like a small pothole. How many potholes arround your area?

I reckon that big chunk missing from the inner part of the tyre could have been the precurser to the damage. Theres not alot of tyre insulating the rim on 20" wheels, so it doesnt much of hit to cause an impact to the rim...Alloy doesnt really bend like a steel rim, just cracks.

its the lack of build quality which makes rims prone to cracking.... not how thin the spokes are. If you have a look at that link i posted up, you see an SS rim with cracks in two of the spokes, and theyre big thick kents too.

the article mentions how some dealers import these copies to save themselves money, so how does your friend know his rims that were fitted to his car are genuines??

It could be the tyre blew first? We will never know.

poor casting will result in weak rims.

China is very good at poor casting with loads of contaminants.

I can't believe how many companies have risked their good reputaion by moving manufacturing to China. It will be the downfall of many of them. It's not just about price.

That's crap. HSV don't sell their parts for use on Holdens. Just like FPV. You have to provide proof of ownership of a FPV before you can by anything FPV specific.

Me thinks dealer doing the dodgy.

its a few combination of factors which is why people should be wary of copies. Even just the slightest varience in the shape from the original design can affect the overall strength of the wheel

It wouldn't actually be hugely difficult to calculate how much stress it would take to break something like that. It mostly depends on what material is used. Some kinds of steel are more brittle then others, some more susceptible to impact stresses and so forth.

I always thought ROH made the mag wheels for Holden. I struggle to believe that they'd make a POS wheel like that...
