Hello again,

I have noticed an unusual noise that seems to be enimating from either somewhere in the driveline or from the front drivers side wheel.

It's an unusual noise, you can hear the noise when you come to a gradual halt, I don't know if this happens when the brakes are applied?

I jacked the front of the vehicle and checked for wheel noise and movement, I could not feel and sign of movement both horizontally and vertically.

I check for ease of wheel rotation, passengers side appears to have more wheel spin and rotates quicker as opposed to the driver's side. Drivers side seems more effort is required to rotate and spin and not as free as that to the passenger side.

Would this be an indication of wheel bearing starting to fail?

Yes, i have been in water even though there is a water tight cap fitted over the wheel lock nut.

Both bearings wheel lock nuts were torqued to correct settings.

Any advice or info that can shed some light on this would be welcome.

Cheers, Peter

I would have to say YES. I just did a set on my AU I just sold. The noise sounded a bit like the hand brake shoes were rubbing and yes, one of the front wheels was a bit quicker turning than the other. I had to get the guy next door to come with me to hear it as I am slightly deaf in the right ear

I bought a set online at Ebay for $54.00, fitted them and the sound has GONE. 8-)

Papa Smurf,

Thanks for your reply and appreciate the information as to the cause.

I just had those wheel bearings replaced last year, then again never had flooded water until late last year and again this year.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers, Peter
