I'm hoping to get a set of tickford spring for my Fairmont, and was thinking when i get them before i fit them I may aswell clean them up and maybe paint them.
I was thinking maybe go blood red, thing is I work at a powder coaters, so I'm thinking I may aswell powder coat them, but being springs is my issue.

the oven cooks at 200 for 10 minutes, although I'd be tempted to do it for 20.

Questions are can they be cooked at that temp or will I risk the integrity of them?
Can they be sandblasted? or will they have to be striped and prepped someother way?

thanks in advance
Joel H.

the trays i work with are powder coated, if you bend something like a flat piece the powder just cracks.
i doubt it would be ok to use for your springs

secondly - i thought the tickford springs were red ?

this is true, powder coating cant handle changes in shape, they're designed for static metals. It will just flake off.

yeah

The powder coat should be alright as it does have a bit of flex int the right ways, obviously when you bend something it's gonna chip, more so with powder coat, but even 2 pac does, but they have tolerance.

I'm mainly just wondering about the 200deg for how sensitive the metal is. Anyway thanks elf, also talks to mate at work who reckons they'll be fine.

teh powder coating should be fine

i would be more worried about the heat changing the spring rates

you will have no problem powder coating spring and sandblasting them. it doesnt affect them in any way with the heat its not hot enough to do anything to metal. And as with the flaking if its done right it really shouldnt happen.

Powder coating should be fine i have seen chromed springs and no sign of cracks etc..

what do you think most aftermarket springs are covered with.. nearly 80% of them are powdercoated... so you wouldn't have a drama
