My power steering seems to be quite stiff, only really happens after i been driving for a little while, thought it might be coz my front tyres are deflated a little, but put them on the meter at BP which read 39PSI (hot) so i let em down a little, im figurin maybe its dirty power steering fluid? but that wouldnt really explain why it only gets stiff when i been driving for a while, like as if it gets hot sorta thing. Its full aswell so im all out of ideas?

It could be old, worn fluid that gets funny when hot or something? How long since it's been changed?
Tyres was going to be my other suggestion, but I see you've already checked that one haha

i dunno when it was last changed, i had a service not too long ago, just an average one, not major, and i dont think they change it unless you get a major service.

I would say your hoses might be worn, they are similar to a radiator hose, only the wear alot quicker.
Other than that, I would say get your pump checked out, as when they get hot, the o-rings inside shrinka little, and if they shrink too much, then they start to leak internally and not pump enough pressure into the rack, causing heavy steering. If it turns out to be the rack or pump let us know before you buy. But really, Id say the hose's.

My theory is, Heat=Friction. I duno if that helps but I have no other options apart from under inflated tyres.

What does the power steering fluid look like? Is it a clean pink/redish color? If it looks dark and burnt replace it and dont forget to flush all the old fluid out.

i havent checked just pulled out the dipstick to check the level, but on the dipstick it looks clean

What do you mean by 'the hoses wear out'? I thought a hose is a hose, and the only thing they can do is leak?

i think there is something wrong with the power steering fluid because i noticed recently that if you have the wheels fully turned and put it into drive or reverse the whole car shudders and almost stalls...

power steering switch is not working. when the wheels are locked the switch sends a signal to the ecu and brings the revs up to cope with the extra load.

the switch is the most piss easy thing to change in your steering system.
Where the steering column meets the rack, you will see 2 wires going into a plug. What the plug, plugs into is your switch, i think( from memory, i buy them without switch's from wreckers) you only need a 3\8ths open ended spanner to take it off. If your going to change that, don't cheap out, buy brand new, i beleive they only about $20 - $25. If that.
