Pro's: tranny lasts longer
Con: I dont know how to install it and they cost around $150 or so.
Love your XR by the way, sometimes wish Id have gotten a white one.

pros: As been said your tranny lasts longer as it wont overheat the fluid, longer sevice intervals as fluid stays cleaner and cooler.

To me the pros out way the cons aint really any cons ecept they are 150-180 bucks and to cooler fluid is bad to.

Essential for towing but i would have one if not towing. I have a ford factory one on my eb xr6 got it for free as i got a parts ea with the tow package and it was still in good condition. Glad i done it.

So even 'coons with even the "light duty" factory tow package already have one? Ive had this car for 6 months and still have no f**k idea what it actually has.

i run 2 coolers and have never had any problems... no real 'cons' just the amount of hoses,
and having to mount 1 cooler in the front guard.

Best way for a street set up is to run it through the cooler first then the radiator, as then it will help to bring it back up to temp if it cools too much.

If you still run it thru the radiator its going to be at least 90c or hotter (the temp your car runs at), my trans bloke reckons cooler the better with the btr he reckons around 70c is good but thats what he thinks anyway :D....

main reason for running an aftermarket cooler is to get is away from the leaky radiator...

heat is the biggest killer of transmissions. If your contemplating on doing any spirited driving or towing, its a must.

A worthwhile investment.

Apart from some BA's which seemed to have an issue with this in 90% of the cases it is due to the radiator reaching the end of its lifespan due to use (or abuse) rather than any flaw of the design.

Yeah he is right. Mine used to run consistently around 80-90 running through tranny cooler/radiator. They were only daily drivers though that rarely saw any hard driving so this application suited me.

If you were placing load pretty consistently on the tranny then would be better off running a stand alone cooler.

Derale make massive coolers for a good price, or a smaller heavy duty PWR cooler will work fine as well

Which model from the PWR range do I buy? Looking at the image I assume its as simple as removing the lines from the old cooler and sliding them over the new cooler?
