I've just put slotted rotors and new pads on the front of my car, and was expecting the pedal to be nice and firm, but instead the pedal seems to travel a long way. If I pump the pedal it becomes firm.
I also replaced caliper kits and wheel bearings. I've inspected the system and there are no leads from the work I have done, and there appears to be no air in the lines. What would be causing this? Would it be the master cylinder? If so what will I need to do and how much? |

the pedal will not be firm from the first pump.
to check master cylinder condition pump until pedal is firm with the car off, keep your foot on the pedal and start car if it goes in the master cylinder is ok. did you change your brake fluid?

did you put hard or soft pads in? it makes a bit of difference in pedal travel...

Definately sounds like air in your lines. Did you bleed them corectly.

I put Ferodo Excel pads in, whether they are hard or soft I don't know. I'm going to bleed the brakes again the arvo and see how that goes, but I'm a little concerned it may be the master cylinder. |

If the master cylinder was stuffed then pumping wouldn't make it firmer. I assume it all worked fine before. If so must be air in lines.

I've just bled the brakes again, and remove a small amount of air, which has dramatically improved the pedal length. I may do it again just to ensure it's right.
