Howdy all
As stated in header, my rack has shat itself and needs replacing. As this is my only form of transport, I'm topping up the fluid when it starts whining and hoping like hell it holds for the time being. Will I be damaging the pump doing this? Any ideas on what I'm up for, and does anyone here (commercial sponser or other) do them for a reasonable price!?? Cheers, Matt. |

You can get a good wrecker rack for around $100 and it will take you about 1 hour to change it. There are only 2 bolts holding the rack on then the tie rods and two hoses plus one wire. Make sure you count the turns when removing the tie rods and put them back the same. Then drive straight to a wheel alignment.
If you are not very mechanically minded then it might take two or three hours. Reco racks would be $400+ and $1-200 labour.

Is it leaking?
Most of the time the pressure switch fails and fluid seep's out, new o-ring and switch = cheaper than a new/reco rack! :D

Hey Matt, I build power steering racks and pumps(also air con comps).
I sell EF racks for $200 with 18 month warranty, and pumps for $75 with 18 months. The whining COULD possibly do damage, but if it's just happened, then no, probably not. Its only when you leave it for months and months, then yeah, it will be rooted. Any other questions, PM or call me 0422 855 862.
