I just got a few q's about this car I bought.
It is an EA Fairmont Ghia, it has an electric sunroof, MPFI, 5 speed, LSD, self leveling suspension, full coloured bumpers, and ghia stuff...

Anyway, the interior is gone, all of it lol. No doors either. There's no actualy damage to the car. So, car's not registerable.

My questions:

1) the t5's connected to a 3.9 used a different flywheel to the 4.0's?

2) It has an LSD, great, but I understand the EA's used stupid gear ratios..stupid as in, not what I want. was it a 2.77? if so, anyone want it?lol..seriously, what was the ratio?

3) What is self leveling suspension exactly? its all going into a wagon, so, I don't think I can use them anyway

4) If I decided to put that LSD into my car, would it make a difference that my car's a wagon? would it work? as in change just the centre? what else?

5) Electric sunroof's worth anything? the stock ones?

6) Dude said that this Fairmont Ghia came with the T5 stock...I didn't know it was an option?

7) Do you prefer Spirits or Bourbon?

Thanks guys.

1 - I think so, but they are cheap enough.

2 - just get a ratio change - 3.45's are nice behind a manual I6

3 - Wagon uses leaf springs in the rear. Front suspension will fit.

4 - LSD in a wagon is fine. (and fun)

5 - No idea

6 - they were an option many moons ago

7 - dont drink :P

1. no all the same
2. Yes they have 2.77 lsd, no change possible, boat anchor is all its good for.
3.SLS is air pump up shocks that keep the car at the same height in the rear regardelss of weight placed in the boot or passengers in the back seat. I doubt it can be fitted to a wagon, most people remove it for normal shocks and springs anyways, but i love mine and will never remove it. (i have a sedan)
4.see point 2, not worth the effort unless you have 2.77 single spinner of course.
5.Electric sunroof if in working order, and in good condition, about $200 i think with full electrical loom of course.
6.Yes it did, damn good score, T5's are hard to find.
7.Tequila .....

Cheers for the replies.

yeah pretty much thats it, apart from front end suspension, steering rack etc, everything at the front is useable, front seats and dash, the rest no good to you (not there is much inside according to your post)

I thought fairmonts & fairlanes only recived auto boxes as these were a luxury car not a sports car, I have seen the conversion done but not seen one factory fitted>

yep, everything from the shifter backwards has been removed, insluding seats, door trims, arm rest, doors themselves, and I think thats it. but the dash is there, stock head deck, high series cluster (thats what he said) its the digital one, where it shows the doors, and the speed digitally.

Well, I got my manual atleast :P

once its towed over to my house, Ill put it up in the for sale section if anyone wants parts. Also my EBII wagon is recieving a strip down, so if anyone wants parts from that either..

oh and ps, are the turbo blade wheels worth anything with full rubber? I will have a set of 9... lol, only need 4.

Cheers

Fairmont Ghia didnt have a T5 option that i'm aware of.

The EA diff is 25 spline, EB onwards use 28 spline. Do you cant just swap the center over, nor can you install a sedan diff (coil sprung) into a leaf sprung wagon.

Yeah, I know the axels were different, I just thought maybe the centre was compatible. Oh well, 2.77 is weak anyway. I guess Ill just have to get an XR 3.45 or something.

While I'm in here, anyone know how to jack your car up by about half a meter? according to the doco thats what height I need to jack it up to to change transmissions... do I HAVE to buy a really expensive jack?

As for the manual options, on all the specs sites Ive seen they have said, a manual was NOT an option in the fairmonts, and the farimont ghia wagons. so farimont ghia sedans had that option?

Cheers

to be honest the time and effort needed to change a transmission jacking the car up, just pull the engine and gearbox as one, then seperate change and drop them back in, you can do it in a day.
