Hi guys ive noticed my BA has the following issues. Has anyone got the same things with their BA's?
1. Excessive roadnoise. 2. I seem to be able to hear a slight hum / noise in the back end at speeds higher than 80. 3. At 100kays plus my steering shakes slightly. The car is running 235/45/17 Dunlop SP3000's Car has 96,000 kays Car is standard and rarely gets abused. Is all this stuff normal for BA's??

define road noise.....
i know with my bf if i start to hear a roar or hum i usually look down to see that i've left it in sequential shift and forgotten bout it till it was doin about 4500k lol apart from that the usual driveline clunk, which is almost non existant when driving grandpa spec.

I ride 19's in my BA and the road noise is TERRIBLE... something to do with crappy tyres and size of wheel. Are you in a XT or premium model? The Ghia's have better sound deadening and are less noisy, but my futura is terrible.
Sterring shake could be a couple of things, have a look at a re-alignment or get one of those suspension checks to see if you need new shocks/springs, could be the cause. Is your Hum like a diff whine? I have not had this issue nor heard anything about it to shed any light. Cheers |

The car is an XR6T. Yeah the road noise is annoying and it seems like a faint diff whine. My EB is quieter than the BA. Could my shocks and springs be gone at 97000 kays? . I will try getting the front wheels balanced tomorrow and see how it goes. Im sure the wheels are balanced though.

i'm running 235/45 r17's atm too. road noise from low profile tyres is really noticable!! when these wear out i'm going to look into running on a larger profile for this exact reason. and so i don't buckle a rim...

SP3000's are particularly prone to noise if worn unevenly too

Hey Mate.
My steering wheels was shaky @ 100Kmh or higher. I got a wheel alignment thinking it could just need that. Unfortunately it happens ever now and then. If you have a solution please tell. Cheers Adz_10 |

They only last around 80000k's at the Best!

OK guys just an update to my situation.
Took the car to Rex Stafford at Yennora this morning. If anyone in sydney knows of the place he is pretty full on with Fords. The car ended up requiring a 4 wheel balance. Suspension was all checked and thank god it was OK. He did mention the shocks were a little soft but he didnt believe they were causing the steering shake. And he also said the tyres on the car are causing the road noise when he test drove it. Cheers, Shaun.

yep rex stafford is the man...
ive been going to him for years.. while his prices are a little higher than some other franchised suspension shops, his work is quality and does a thorough job... and i mean thorough... |

technically you could get your wheels balanced, leave the shop, drive round the block and they could still be re-balanced, it doesn't take much to throw them out,i've proved it. being dirty with lots of tar even effects them. so keep that in mind that your rims should be spotless inside and out when blanced then kept that way... (riiiiight lol)

My BA has steering shake problem too. It usually starts over 100Km/h and can sometimes be really bad.
Last time it happened, I thought I had a flat tyre but after stopping and starting again the problem went away, for a while. I did a trip from Sydney to Brisbane and had to stop 4 or 5 times due to violent steering shake. My mechanic could not find any problem. Most people suggest tyre or balancing problems but why would it only appear occasionally. A friend suggested power steering problems. Could that be it? Al |

Apparently it could be a number of things causing steering shake Big Al. Could be shocks, Ball joints, Tyres, buckled rims, it dosent stop mate. Luckily i got away with just needing a wheel balance. Maybe try a wheel balance and see how you go. I paid 36 bux for all 4 wheels.
