I have a 5.0L EL Fairmont and the power steering rack is cactus. now... I have searched right through this forum but couldn't find the answer... maybe the answer is there and my searches were not worded properly... who knows...
What I *am* trying to find out is whether a 6cyl power steering rack will fit into the V8 without too much hassle as I have a 6cyl EL Futura I am pulling apart... and rather than spend money I just don't have at the moment, I'd rather use the second-hand rack if it will fit. I know the 6cyl rack has the sensor on it and I wouldn't need to do anything with it, just leave it sitting there... but I am wondering if the angle of the pinion is different in any way AND why the intermediate steering shaft is specific to the 6cyl and to the V8?? Cheers, Glenn

The 6cyl will fit the V8. As you said just leave the sensor unplugged.
I have a V8 one in my 6cyl. |

Thanks for the info SWC, this sounds very promising, did you have to change that steering column intermediate shaft or were they interchangeable with the splines and everything the same?

EL Splines should be the same.
EF are different. God know why. |
