I have an EF XR8.
Do these have the sam rack as other EF's?
Are the 6 cyl racks the same as the V8 racks?
I have a cracked boot and was told to replace the rack. Would it be ok to just replace the boot? I haven't had to top up the power steering fluid in 6mths, so it can't be leaking much.

Why do you have to replace the whole rack just for a split boot? Just replace the boot maybe?
is you steering:

stiff?
noisy?
steering wheel play?
Rack bent?

if not, i wouldn't worry. Just get the boot replaced or tape it up? Check the rack ends for sand/dust intrusion though while you are there.

that's what i was hoping someone would suggest. I think i might just go buy a boot and see how it goes. My steering is fine apart from the broken boot. No wobbles creaks or heaviness at all.
Whre's the best place to pick a boot up? Repco?

I wouldn't replace the rack just for a split boot. Just throw another boot on.

The V8 racks don't have the pressure switch that the 6's do.

Replace the rack because of a boot?

No way man, some a**hole is pulling your leg. If the steering feels fine/how it should, then just replace the boot.
