As some of you may have noticed, I lowered the lane on the weekend and all was good at first, but today I took it for a spin down to the supermarket and there was a constant knocking noise coming from the drivers side rear suspension over even the slightest bumps. I took it straight home and jacked her up again but could not find any thing loose? I finally traced the knocking noise down to the top of the shock tower. It even knocks when I grab hold of the rear wheel arch and lift the car up and down?? It is frustrating the s**t out of me. Does anybody have any idea's?? I am going to pull the shock out tomorrow and check the top mounts and insulators but the top spindle of the shock does not move at all when the knock occurs as you would expect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Mick

could be the bottom shockie bolt needs tightening.
Doesnt matter if its already tight, mine needed just to be turned a fraction tighter, and all the dreadful noises disappeared. Sounded like the diff was in 20 pieces rattling around....... |

sounds like the bush has gone, when you lowered it did you put new shocks in or just springs? 2 options.. you could replace the bush, oddson if that was the original one, the passenger side one is not far behind, or you could bodge it up and try and cut a bush to suit, have previously had the same issue and had to temp it, piece of old car tyre worked ok, but what ever you do you will need to replace teh bush eventually.

The rear suspension was originally pedders standard height (only installed brand new late december). I have just put in a set of kingspring lows, but used the new pedders shocks. Could I have damaged the shocks by not installing short shaft units? I have only lowered the rear height by approx 1 1/2 inches. The springs were actually the same height when sat next to each other?? But to answer your questions, bumpstops, bushes, shocks etc are all brand new?

I would say tighten the bolts also. I had a knock after I put my supers in, went back (after advice from here), and tightened everything as much as possible - then got a hammer and tightened em up more.
Result - problem solved. |

I remember nearly having a double hernia just trying to undo the lower shock mounts. Even had the missus run outside because she thought I dropped the car on me. I recon I must have torn nearly every stomach muscle loosening the f**k.
Result - problem solved.

And don't forget that you should tighten the lower shock bolts with the weight of the car on them i.e. don't have the diff hanging.

If you have ramps back up on them so the weight is on the shocks and so on. Loosen the lower shock bolts and retighten. Also loosen the upper and lower rear control arm bolts then retighten as the bushes would have twisted as the car has lowered whick could cause a knock.

You guys are f**k legends! All fixed. Not a single noise, not even the slightest squeek! I was so happy I even cleaned my MAF and did the ECU reset on the idle and WOT. Then, cause there was still light in the day, I gave her a wash and shamy. Thanks for the advice fella's. Always good to know I can count on my fellow fordmodders for a bit of friendly advice.
