Hi all,
ive got a bit of an issue with my XG pulling to the left.Ive tried for many months to work out what is causing it, pedders looked at it and could only put it down to the tires but im not convinced. Anyway my current suspition is that it may be related to the rear as opposed to the front end.... a few months ago i put reset springs in the back and cant recall worrying to much about how the axle was aligned. My question is does the rear axle/wheels need any form of alignment? and if not aligned correctly could this make the vehicle pull to the left? Thanks and hope it isnt too much of a noob question, just trying to get to the bottom of whats becoming quite a saga! Cheers Dan |

Did you get four new tyres, if you did where they balanced, it might be your rims. I would go with what pedders told you, all ford utes are leaf sprung they don't need rear wheel aligning, if it was a holden it would be another story. If your wheels and tyres are not to blame it might be a brake related problem

na i havent had the new tyres put on it yet, due to be done in the next few weeks so ill see if that makes a difference. But ive had two different sets of tyres on the ute in the past and its still pulling.
i advised pedders of the situation, youd think they would check brakes while they were under there?? |

Pedders won't check your brakes mate. If the brake caliper slides are seized up on the left side the car and operating to the right it could be brake drag causing it to pull to one side.

also take the front tyres off and swap them from left to right, that works alot if their is abnormal wear on the tyres (posibly from wheel alignment or worn bushes etc).
i have also seen someone repack wheel bearings and over tighten the hell outta one side and someone else did the other and the car pulled badly and felt like brakes binding on that wheel.

I know this sounds silly but did you put the left spring on the left hand side and the right on the right hand side? maynot make much difference but springs are SET differently from left to right?

Cheers ToranaGuy I got a set from pedders once and they were labeled FR, FL, RL, RR that was for a xe wagon just a thought tho lol

My Hz's leaf springs are not labeled for left or right fitment. Front coils were tho. Cheers ToranaGuy

The leafs on the back on the XE wagon were labeled left and right and same as the front coils.

Uneven tyre wear is not the only reason for tyre pull.
Your tyres can have a slight difference in the angle of the radial belts. This means that brand new tyres can have a pull to them. Handy to make a non adjustable (camber, castor) front suspension drive straight. Did they give you a print out of the alignment? Ifso post the specs.

just pop the bearing covers off and check that they arent over tightened and has correct pre-load. its something you get a feel for doing. did u try swapping the tyres side to side on the front yet?
