this problem just started a few days ago... when driving and slowing (no brakes) down the rear end locks up and the cars a** bounces and the engine almost stalls then its ok? is it a diff problem?

I was thinking 1st gear applied at same time as second....
But that was all I had for ideas. |

Could be uni's.
It could be catching on some thing in the box when it goes to change into first gear. Do the wheels lock up if the car is in netural slowing down? edited due to finding out 1 of my questions Last edited by RedRoo on Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:17 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

keep in mind this is an 11 second EL still running a BTR
metal shavings from the trans doesn't sound promising

Sounds a lot like one of the solenoids is slow, and not letting go fast enough on the 2->1 change.
Metal filings... is a good reason to be slow. |

If manual it could be the diff's crown wheel bolts come loose or the spider gears retainers? Do the wheels lock up if the car is in netural slowing down? never tried to put in neutural...., i was thinking the diff.... the metal particles could of been der since the cluches was changed....i dont think the auto got flushed......but the auto if shifting perfectly fine.....its doing its job...so donno what...

Too early to tell, any weird noises etc?
Have you checked your rear rotors for warping and your pinion/uni spinning freely? Have you jacked it up, supported and chocked it properly to check it visually at idle, in gear? Doing these things could give a few more clues and may even reveal the problem straight away. Cheers, Paul

it did used to make a clunck noise and it dose make a noise like somethings lose in the diff when it changes gear....also the fluid finished in bout 1 week....but no leaks and the diff heats up more than normal....

Short of going to a trans/diff shop and having it checked, the easy option, try doing what I suggested above first. If your still not sure what it is, swapping in a spare diff. assembly would eliminate one possible cause, if no change that leaves the gearbox and tailshaft as prime suspects.
If it's all good, then it's a component of your removed diff assembly ie either brakes, axles, bearings or diff. centre. Easier to fix as it's already out of the car. Cheers, Paul

Allmost sounds like his ECU / BOX is keeping the Torque Converter locked up for to long.

garsiph,
I reckon that's possible but the comments re. the diff noises [above] lead me to suggest separating them. For me, it's easier to swap out a complete diff. than a gearbox for a test run. One affecting/damaging the other is also a possibility, better checked if separated is all I'm suggesting to HiBoost. Cheers, Paul

Paul,
My diff goes KLUNK when i drop the gas or slam the gas on. The Uni on the tailshaft needs to be replaced. it wouldnt cause his issues. But we also need to know if its lsd |
