g'day i have a few question. had a quick search and couldnt see much about it
im getting the s**t with my 1993 series 2 NC fairlane ghia as the rear air shocks, or maybe somewhere along the air lines is leaking causing it run the pump too often and is making it difficult to start. now weighing up my options, is it better to replace the air shocks and hope that it isnt a line or a fitting that is leaking, or should i convert it to standard shocks. now if i go to standard shocks, do i just have to disconect the air lines, tape over the ends and pull the fuse at the pannel. or is there more to it? also if changing to standard shocks, do i have to get springs to suit or air the self leveling suspension springs the same as a standard set up. now a further question, as it sits illegaly low now, even after when i got the exhaust put on they lifted it as high as possible, is this due to the air suspension, or will fitting standard springs and shocks still have the same effect? Furthermore, how much is a good price for getting the LSD reconditioned as it is only spinning one wheel. also what fluid do people recomend as i might change the fluid and see if that changes the scheme of things first thanks in advance jono |

in regards to you rear shocks .
My DC LTD has the same setup , bet when i had a good look , the shocks were replaced and std hieght springs were put in - i think just std falcon springs were used ( King Spring ) . Also the rear leveling switch was unpluged from above the diff .

Hi
With the SLS it can be very costly to fix - most people convert to standard springs and shocks You need to chaneg both the shockers and springs Then just remove the SLS circuit breaker!

thanks for that. so are they just standard falcon king springs? also it sits illegaly low as it is, but theres heaps of room between the wheel arch and the tyre
is this a standard thing with the falcons? |

hard to say without looking!
Fairlanes have a different part no on king springs to falcons Also you will see a rod attached to your wats linkage - pull taht actuator off. Just pull teh fuse to the SLS pump and you wont have any dramas

My NF had SLS leaking, The leak is in the pump, the valve you can get at through thr large hex bolt on the top of the pump. I fixed it by cleaning the seating surface of the valve. It had corroded. A Ford place in Canberra had previously misdiagnosed the fault as leaking shocks, chrged my wife about 400 $ to change them. CROOKS.

so is there a process of diagnosis. the pump has to run for aproximately 10 saec every time i start the car...starting to kill the pump
would soapy water in a spray bottle be an idea similar to the way u find gas leaks? |

The connections to the rear shockers (under rear seats may leak, but the rest of the joints are at the pump end. So you will have to find the pump anyway.
Its behind the cover in front of the drivers side front wheel, there may be an another cover over the pump itself. Its normal for the pump to run for a few seconds every time you jump in and start, unless you are as light as a feather. regards, Ray. |

i pulled the fuse one day and left the car for the day. then came back in the arvo and it started first tap of the key, where as normaly, it pumps for around 7 seconds and it takes 3 or 4 seconds of slow kicking over to start. im pretty sure its leaking as i hear it pumping up in the middle of the night

I am currently wrecking an NC & the rear springs look very spindly so yes you would have to replace them with standard Falcon items.
