the other half was complaining about her clutch and having trouble getting into gears.. after a quick think i decided to put in a new clutch cable and then found this -
shot from engine bay - from inside, under dash - not cool at all.. would it be better to take it to a mechanic or a panel beater?? |

I take it this is on the EF.
The inside pic doesn't look familiar tho. You can still purchase re-enforcing brackets from ford, they're around $53. They're a pre-fabed plate with 2 bolt holes, you drill the holes, insert the nuts and presto. Or you can make one yourself, do a search its a common problem.

Common as xf door dandles this problem!
As said the ford part aint that flash! Will do the job but if ya good with a welder you could prob plate it and make a better job of it and more permanant! mine was "patched" up to last 3 weeks bout 2 years ago! mind you a piece of 5mm plate found its way in there! |

yes a quick patch will do wonders but for the best results you should place plate behind brake booster

i got a local exhaust shop to do my EA's firewall.
cost me 40 bucks for a round piece of 10mm plate to be welded on the firewall. worked brilliantly.

What did he charge you for the 'gen' ford plate?

Lubricating the cable won't do much for a long term fix - better to replace it if it's binding.
Over time, the inner cable starts sawing through the conduit, particularly around when the cable bends.
