ive done a bit of research on replacing diff gears, i was looking at purchasing some 3.9's off ebay
roughly how much would a local diff shop charge to put them in?

around $450 if you give them the diff
around $800 if you want drive in drive out.

Free if you do it yourself, then you'll need another set of gears in 30,000k's :)

is that including the price of the gears? or just for labour?

I'm estimating with you providing the gears.

A good installer would replace all bearings, crush tube (or solid spacer) and shim to correct spec's.

There's an art to diffs, it takes time and patients to correctly set them up.
however, I've changed many gears and centers and never had a problem, BUT i haven't fitted orphan gears to a random housing.
