Does anyone know if the RTV locking diff would fit into an e-series housing? Supposedly the RTV has the heavy-duty M86 made by Dana/Spicer.
[Below is some info i found on it previously; "The other part of RTV’s off-road package is a new locally developed Differential Locking System (DLS) that boasts a number of firsts. Adapted from Ford Courier models sold in other markets and supplied by Falcon IRS manufacturer Dana/Spicer, DLS employs a vacuum operated, in-diff yoke to lock both sides of the rear axle together, but it’s the first time this has been controlled (from an on-dash button) via the Powertrain Control Module. It is also the first time DLS has been used in Falcon’s heavy-duty M86 diff, which is reserved for use with V8s only while Falcon sixes employ a regular M78 unit. Switchable via a dash-mounted button below 40km/h, DLS automatically unlocks at 70km/h and will automatically relock when speed drops back below 40km/h, unless DLS is cancelled. A green instrument warning light illuminates when the system is active." elsewhere . . . "But the most intriguing part of the RTV's driveline is its electronic lockable DANA/Spicer rear diff. In normal conditions the diff allows the left and right axles to rotate independently of each other. But push the in-cabin diff lock button and a pair of dog gears mesh inside the diff to lock the left and right axles together. This means wheelspin will occur only when both rear wheels have inadequate traction. Note that diff lock is actuated only at speeds below 40 km/h and it automatically disengages at a speed greater than 70 km/h. Ford says it's unlikely a locked rear axle is required at speeds above 40 km/h. We tested the electronic diff lock on loose dirt and can vouch that it certainly aids traction."]

E-series being sedans and the RTV being a ute, probally not as one is based on coils and other of leaf suspension.
However, i once went down the path (investigated only) of making a Falcon into a 4WD, my perfect 'car' as it would be powerful, yet capable. A few mod shops said they could do it, but would take a bit of money, they said... Cheaper to have a bullet proof 4wd (Maverick/Patrol) and a car (falcon) $0.02 - Hope that helps Short answer: No, coils vs leafs

you could get both diffs and cut off all the brackets and weld the needed brackets on to the locking diff, for fitment to a sedan.
or you might be able to just swap centers anything is doable with enough money |

or you might be able to just swap centers anything is doable with enough money that exactly it any thing is possible with money and patiance... are the RTV a solid axle type?... a compentantent welder could cut and shunt and make a diff housing to fit and a comadate the diff swap... i

rtv is solid axle
the tracks are almost teh same between models the only thing with the complete diff/axle swap is that the rear of the car will have the B series offset and frotn E series now if it is just changing the centres over? well im not sure as they are 2 diff ( pun ) companies BW vs dana but as others have said a complete swap of centre and axles would be quite easy and not that exp

I imagine one would buy a complete axle? how much would that cost?
I hope to get a mig welder so i could possibly do the bracket swap myself. Would the driveshaft bolt up without needing resizing? The wider track shouldn't be a problem because the guards stick out a fair way anyway, indeed it would be an advantage. What ratio's would be available? Any more info on putting the centre (and axles?) into the standard diff? How would that work with the crownwheel and pinion, the bearings, and the brakes? To use an ARB air locker requires a 9" which all ends up being expensive. To use a Powertrax would be mostly good except it does affect handling more so on cold/wet/icy roads which is not good for me. I am no longer considering a Lokka. Maybe i'll end up with an LSD.

Just a bit of info... I'm pretty sure Dana bought out BW, so essentially same company.

Thats my input for a lokka. Brett we've been running one in a sierra for years on and off road, with 31inch tall 10inch wide tyres. no problems with axles at all. and if you ever seen a sierra axle. tooth pick come to mind. |

From the Lokka manufacturers website:
"Although smoother than other competitive locking differentials, the brute force characteristics of the POWERTRAX LOCK-RIGHT Locker limit general application in less tolerant and more mainstream applications. In some vehicles, you will hear a light clicking noise as the gears are overrunning themselves and allowing the wheels to differentiate in a turn. This is normal of most lockers on the market today. We recommend the LOCK-RIGHT for vehicles that are primarily driven in severe driving conditions or are used for recreational off-road.
