Im pretty sure that my S5 solenoid is shagged in my 97 el fairmont ghia. I have really rough shifts going in and out of 2nd gear and this problem gets worse when the car warms up. I have called around several transmission specialists and have been quoted up to $500+ (This sounds like a ripoff) and as little as $280 inclu service. Does this sound like a reasonable price?
Thanks, Louie |

i bought the car in about may i think and it has been a bit of a problem since. I got it flushed and serviced about 3 months ago and that made it less s**t, but something else is definitely buggered in there as the problem persisted and is still there. The guy who owned the car before me neglected it badly and i only really found out when i got it and drove it for a week. My mechanic said it probably hadnt had been touched in 5 years...

Give western suburb automatics a ring, the are located in rocklea area brisbane,
He will put the car on a machine and go through and test the solinoids out Cheers Matt

EL had no dipstick they were a sealed unit you only checked the oil level. You drive them till they stop any good mechanic will tell you that, once you touch the transmission something is bound to happen. A rebuild is $1500 and all parts are replaced once you start changing bits and pieces you will continue to change parts gassa

i just got mine replaced, with a service, front and rear bands adjusted and new tailshaft bushes, from one of the best specialists in melbourne, for only 374. they originally quoted only 270, but then found the tailshafts bushes needed to be replaced, as i told them the driveshaft was vibrating at high speeds. so be prepared for any extra damage lol. but yea as i was sayin, i'd say, expect to spend a max of 400.

Mine has done 260,000km and hasn't missed a beat. A shift kit will lengthen the life of the transmission as well.
