I have been getting a significant clunk occuring going from 1st to 2nd lately, so I went to a transmission place that my dad knows and they quoted me 500 bucks for what the said was the S5 soleniod.
this seems a bit unreasonable since 2nd hand autos go for about 300 in the quokka, so does anyone know of a cheaper way of fixing this problem, and exactly how hard it is to install the solenoid if by chance I could buy an aftermarket one? Thanks

Solinoids are piss easy to wire, but as to install into an auto box, i couldnt help there. 500 bucks sounds way expensive to me mate.... Id be looking around.....

Got mine done in my EL including tranny service (normally $110) for $300 total. So $500 is over the top. From memory the soleniod alone is around $80

Damn, the S5's have dropped in price since I bought mine. I paid $250 for a genuine AU one around 18 months ago.
They're easy to fit, when you're doing a service, the S5 comes out after undoing the 2 torx bits holding it in. |

Yes Froudey, the AU S5 fits straight into any EA-BA 4spd auto.

yeah was reading some site i found while googling the topic, and one guy reckons if you put a commo s5 into ur falcon you get marginally faster shifts. personally, after i find a new solenoid, ill just make a variable shift kit for the same effect.
