I bought some Dexron III to service both my cars manual gearboxs (as per the manual) it also says to add Lubrizol 7906 friction modifier.
Well I couldnt find any around so I'm using "Redline LSD Friction Modifier and Break In Additive". What I want to know is will the Redline stuff be doing the same job as the Lubrizol stuff or have I got the wrong stuff? Cheers |

In the tremec manual on the T5 it says dont use gear oil because you could damage your blocking ring/material.
Penrite do the lubrizol 7906 but no one has it. Ford dont seem to use it either. Wierd because they say you do in the car manual. My tag line I have no idea where it came from. |

A few places in Melb sell it, and I bought 3 last time.
it states on the bottle :Applications Ford 1991+ EA, EB, ED, EF, EL, Ghia, XR6, XR8 Models Holden 1995+ Commodore, Calais, VR, VS Models Why it states Ghia I am unsure of as they're all Autos! and I spoze that goes for the Calais as well. Also has "A BTR approved manual transmission additive package for use in some GM and Ford manual gearboxes. Alleviates problems associtated with baulking." I think these other synthetic oils and redline have an additive like lubrizol in them already.

i was under the impression that any light gear oil will be fine, i thought that was the reason for ATF, most gear oils were thick back then.

That could be true.
T-5s are an old gearbox. I have to find out if the latest stuff is alright to use then. |

I think it was Band Of Brothers, seeing as they were airborne soldiers and dropped into the middle of the enemy behind the lines.
But lets get back to sorting out what oil and additives to use in the T5 shall we? |

krytox, EA-ED Ghia's were available as a manual
i'm using the specified 75-90 gear oil (Mobil XHP 75-90 in my case seeing as nobody else had it) in my sprint and its fine, tho its a bit reluctant to go into 2nd from 3rd when its still cold AFAIK the specification changed from gear oil to DEX3+lubrizol to allow the synchros to do thier job quicker

Thats what I found out yesterday too. I read heaps of s**t on oils and synchros. Basically thats why ATF was recommended because its so light and then add a friction modifier. |
