A transmission Control Module, as used in the earlier fords (up until EBII, around late 1992) is located either in front of your left knee in the dash, or just above the drivers side footrest. If you do have a TCM, you will need to wire your shift kit to this, wiring pins are provided in the diagram. Its a silver box with two yellow plugs attached to it, each of them have heaps of wires coming out of them.

I always thought the XH is a EL equivelant, someone correct me if im wrong.

Im pretty sure it is too but then I remember that just because it had the EL front didnt mean it had all the el stuff in it, I thought they chopped and changed s**t around a lot.
And I reckon the xf's run a tcm, which would be why theres no solenoid wire on that pinout.
Easiest way will be to take the ecu out, and post up any numbers/markings on it and someone should be able to identify it.

XF sedan never had electronic controlled tranny. Whenever xf/xg changed to BTR 4 speed would be when they went electronic. EB2 onwards went ecu trans control so I am tipping XH would be the same as EL.
Just an uneducated guess tho.

I only have the layout of the TCM plug that the later V8's used. If it looks the same as this, Im gonna go out on a hope and say theyre numbered the same. I dont own a TCM ford so cant help you and noone sent me the workshop manuals of them.

So if your plugs look like this:
Image

Then you can use pin 7 and pin 29 (pin 7 is the one on the top row)
Didnt blow it up because I didnt want to have to draw it again.
If that is not your plug, then your up s**t creek and Ill have to try dig something up.

Dont know. I got the info of what the wires did out of a workshop manual but it dont remember what the plug looked like/how it was numbered. I would think they are the same.

Its only easy to be sure with the red wire (which is a constant 12v when the car is on). Make absolutely sure when theres a bit of light to work with though that there arent any really really tiny numbers on it though. If not, use at your own risk. I think the manual I got it out of had the colours written down of the wire, shouldve kept that but I assumed they wouldve been numbered.

If you have a multimetre and a steady had we can try to confirm the S5 wire by measuring the resistance of that wire to ground.

when i got home at 5 and checked it was light. and i alos got the torch out. i pulled the plugs out and looked on the plugs and on the TCM itself. i might unbolt it this weekend and pull it out and have a look. but if you could get the wire colours that'd be awesome

Ok, well you may be stuffed then. The only plan I had has just failed as the head guy on the other ford forums doesnt have it either. Maybe put a call out to anyone thats done it to a TCM. Or alternatively look for any green wires, if they can correspond to the pin (27?, cbf) then that should be it. Sorry I cant be of any more help. If there are any green wires that can correspond to that number by counting either way, post up a picture and I can tell you how to make sure by testing the resistance with a multimetre but again Im not sure about this and the car may have to be driving along to do that. Dont know. May be more harm then good. You can always do it the manual, always on way by dropping the pan off the trans and screwing the S5 in half a turn.
