if yas are worried about it shifting harsh why fit a shiftkit :?

because the factory shifts in my AU Ghia were setup for comfort, which meant lots of slippage between gears to make the transition smooth

i didnt like that, so just wanted a positive shift on gear changes, not wheel chirps.

problem is the shiftkit doesnt compensate for throttle position, and while it feels nice on medium to heavy throttle, it clunks a little when using light throttle because the speed isnt there to absorb the firm gear change

does that explain it a little better?

thats exactly the same as mine mate. but id like it firmer than what it is hence askin on which way to go with my resistors

someone hurry up and make one for adaptive shifts with an on/off button or pot. pot would be awsome.

I built this thing up yesterday, using these truly massive resistors that the guy at Jaycar said were the right ones... right numbers on the side so anyways... Have a problem though. I used the 18 ohm and 5.6 ohm resistors as the shop doesnt stock 15w adjustable cans. My car is an EB Fairmont, but runs an EL computer. Do I use the 5.6ohm resistor or the 1 ohm resistor? With the 5.6 in it goes straight into limp home mode. Also, The switch that the guy sold me, I told him I wanted the on/on dpdt switch, is there a way to tell by looking if I got the right sort? It only has one clicking action if that helps, on or off so to speak. Any help gratefully accepted. Oh yeah, the adjustable can, are they also known as potentiometers?

Woohoo success !!

Diagram below is for an Adjustable shift kit that is always "on" due to switch being deleted to suit EF/AU 6cyl models, but can be applied to other models using different pins in the ECU.

I beleive you dont need the switch, as when its turned down the shifts are soft as factory....... turn the dial all the way up and its harsh shifting. Leave it in the middle like i have and tuck the pot under the dash, and you have a nice firm shifting auto suitable for daily driving.

This has me slightly confused, I went into Jaycar looking for these parts. They said that a 15 watt pot is about the size of a tennis ball. But looking at the pictures of what you guys have made, the pots are pissy little things. Is the 15w part of the description a typo at all???

Anyhooo, after all the replies on this one I thought I might let you guys know what I found out. First up, a 5ohm 15w potentiometer is about the size of a small child apparantly. What you really want is a 5K 16mm potentiometer. It does the job beautifully. Just one tip, when you do install the shift kit, make sure you have the 'volume' down on the can, ie at the lowest possible setting and then slowly wind up from there. If its set too 'loud' you will get the fright of your life when the diff explodes.

i'd rather keep my adaptive shift..

just flick a switch on, drop the adaptive shift and use the pot. good for short squirts.

I'm thinking of doing this to my AU. Just wondering if any AU drivers have done this and have any tips?
