came across a shift kit on ebay and was wondering if the claims below is true,
"This not only reduces heat generated within the clutches and bands in the transmission, but also will increase transmission lift and reduce wear." "The shift modules will in fact reduce wear and friction within the transmission, therefore your transmission will last longer."

I always thought they significantly reduced the life of the transmission.

It's sorta true, but then with a shift kit you get increased shock loading.
Most people agree you shouldn't leave them on all the time though, only when you want to have a squirt. I've got a reasonably firm one on my EL, and it certainly doesn't feel like it's being kind to the tranny at times! |

yeh i find it extremely hard 2 believe that it would increase life of the gearbox, they do not treat the box well from what I can feel

depends how hard you have it set....if its cranked right up of a*** it will kill it quicker. I remember reading a thread on here a while ago where someone reckoned that if you just have a mild one it was better for the box, i cant see how it would be better but they reckoned so

the shiftkit works by slightly increasing the line pressure, therefore it does reduce heat generated within the clutches and bands in the transmission hence causing less wear to the transmission.

its true. your bands and a few other parts will last longer, but prolonged use will seriously f**k up the rest of your drivetrain.
they are wicked fun in the wet though...
