presto wrote: sorry i read his name as i6 demon and assumed, didnt check his ride was a v8 tho. here is the link to the v8 shift kit.. boy did he get involved working this out! good to see you guys putting heads together to come up with a solution, well done to you and wrexed03 Yeah sorry I signed up When I had my EA 93_eb_fairmont wrote: thepistonhead wrote: Couple of points: 1.As yours is an V8, there have not been many if any people that i know of that have made shift kits (the DIY method) last time i checked. You may have to be the guinea pig. 2. Research reliability. I admit I know little on the topic, but some say it is a gearbox killer. The boxes are simply not designed to shift with this speed/force. You could be left a couple of G's out of pocket if your gearbox goes bang. This alone has prevented me from looking further into shift kits. There has been one, a brave soul that took the info I gave him and experimented with different resistors until he found it. I can definately tell you the pin numbers at least though if I cant find the thread but should be able to. Dont remember if it was a v8 though Some say that, you get these naysayers, and they come and they say nay. I dont think there is any harm to be done to the box, my AU has adaptive shift and it shift harder sometimes then the shiftkit in my eb and ef did, so much so Ive got belt slip on a few occasions, if ford did it, it must be able to handle it. Gearbox will be safe (dont hold me reposnible though). However, if my belt didnt slip those few times I reckon an engine mount or worse could have happened. As usual, keep it under control and you'll be OK I may aswell give it a go - I got my last box for $400 outta a el xr8 so i can find em cheap on the off chance it goes pop!! Besides could be a bit of fun (under controlled circumstances of course ) Cheers again everyone been a massive help |

The shiftkit will make your trans last longer, its heat that kill them and the shift kit prevent heaps of it.
The only thing i have found it that its pretty harsh on the diff. My trans has done 245,000k and its still the original and still going very strong. I have the adjustable shift kit. When its all the way down it still quite a firm shift but all the way up it will kick out side ways when you change gears. Its fun booting it and your doing about 60k's, it kicks backs hard and chirps and goes sideways into 2nd.
