Hey all,
I have a EF with Ticky suspension. Well I am now sure that the shocks are totaly rooted, I was wondering since I am going to replace them should I also replace the springs, I would rather not as I like the height it is at now and would save a little moolah. Also whats everyones pick for a 225/50/R16 tyre? |

nah the springs will be ok... they may have sagged a tiny bit, but if your happy with the height then they will be sweet.
As far as tyres go, don't know an awful lot, but any reputable brand would be the pick |

Well mine are stuffed too, ive noticed if you push down on the rear or front of the car and it "bounces" a few times before settlling then the shocks are stuffed. When i go over a bump at slow speed i can feel the car bounce once or twice after the bump.

Yeah my bounce is out of control.... just plane silly both front and rear, I think there are probably a few other suspension parts that are some what shagged aswell.

Good experiences with Simex rubber and Dunlop SP3000s in that size. Simex ones are pretty easy on the wallet too... they lasted forever! I actually sold them with like 20% tread to another member.. he had them for awhile, then he sold them to ANOTHER member whos a mate of mine, and the f**k things still have the same tread I sold them with lol Still gripped nicely too...

I have found I can get dobinsons springs for under 300 bucks for a set, front a rear, would these be a worthwhile purchase, or dont springs wear out as such?

Springs don't wear out as quick as shocks ... I suggest changing your shocks. There's quite a few brands of shock out there ... if the vehicle is lowered I suggest getting a shorter body shock so you get the full travel needed for control.
I am running Pedders sportsryder gas shocks and they have been fine for me ... but it depends how much you want to spend ... I wouldn't mind getting Bilsteins ... but that's around the $1100 mark for 4 shocks. Usually tyres are a personal preference as well for a lot of people .. so you will get a lot of different types thrown at you ... how much are you willing to spend per tyre. Steer clear of: Falken ZIEX (death traps) Nankang NS-IIs (noisy ... out of round) I personally like Yokohama rubber ... but they can be pricey depending on model chosen.

They grip OK ... up until a certain point ... and then squirm really badly ... feels like the tyre is coming off the rim ... noise is bad as well.
When loaded up a bit ... they aren't confidence inspiring at all.

From what I've read the Nankangs are good value, but I do agree with the Falkens, worst tyres ever, no grip at all in the wet!

I got them cos they were $119 for a 235/45R17 ... and heard good reports .. since driving on them though .. it's a different story. Not too bad for the price ... but I guess you get what you pay for though.
Will be trying Hankook Ventus K104 next time.
