yes.

cut it.

drill it.

thread it.

screw in a bolt and cut the bolt thread to original height.

Two ways of doing it. cut and inch out of the middle. and then weld the top to the bottom.

Or cut it and then use a tap and die to thread the top to a suitable size.

Or third, the expensive yet more effective option, rather than just shorten the lever buy a shortshifter which actually reduces throw, makes shifting quicker and more accurate and usually has positive stops.

Or combine the short stick with a quick/rip shifter. I've got like 2 inches between all the gears. Win!

I have a Herrod short shifter and a cut down shifter, very positive and quick shifts now.
The shifter is cut down about 1.5" and a bolt welded onto it for the knob to screw onto.

thats all i did...

I have a BA 5 speed stick... Now with a short throw out of the states and have shortened in the stick 1.5 or 2" it was too hard to reproduce the ends so just cut the middle out of it... just getting a new boot made up out of something that wont crack like BA ones do...

how about I swap you a EF/EL shortened one for your standard one!

I one had a broken wrist (got pin and plate in it) and i don't like the short one.

its has not been done by a back yard job, its had about a inch or so taken out and been re tig welded back together ..

Laticia.
