Same thing happened with mine, I originally thought f**k ill just put the short shift in it and hopefully it would replace the part that was f**k but then the mech's told me it wont so i also had to pay $90 for a shifter pivot on top of the rest of the s**t.

Felt like a new car when it got that fixed and the short shift installed

Hope this helps

Problem of not needing to be pushed to go into reverse is likely the circlip that holds the spring on the outside of the lever jumps off sometimes, just happened to mine for the second time.
Otherwise the little steel insert that blocks the lever's movement is worn.

FOr a sloppy box, the nylon nut that holds the lever in the shifter housing can wear, giving sloppy shift, or sometimes the pivot ball can wear but that is less likely.
If you can hold the lever halfway between the first/second and third/fourth planes and shift it about 10mm forwards, locking the gearbox solid, then you either have a worn interlock spool or pin, or worn selector forks.
Also the selector rail that runs between the shifter housing and the gearbox can wear the alloy housing, needing reaming and bushing of the housing.

The nylon nut is about $30 and is not too hard to change. The interlock spool is about $45 new and the selectors can be reconditioned for around $90 the pair exchange. All by The Gearbox Factory in Sydney. Rebuild kits are ( I think) around $150 or so and a reco box is about $600 exchange from my local Old Ford specialist. If the alloy threads that hold the nylon nut are stuffed then for around $120 the Gearbox Factory can ream it out, rethread and supply a steel nut for a permanent fix.
