Hey guys,
Just thought I'd share a little issue I had yesterday in my EB Fairmont - somehow managed to snap the rear swaybar mount clear off the chassis rail! I heard something clunking around.. thought it may have been a shock mount, but alas my fat whiteline bar was hanging down. Doh! This is the 2nd time it happened. Anyone know why this might be happening, other than increased stress from a very tough rear swaybar, low center of gravity and driving it like a supercar to and from work every day?

That could have something to do with it. It was the link bars, about 15cm long? if they are tightened to mush or too little they do have a habit of going AWOL.

Theres a lot of torsional twist there, so its not suprising. Instead of looking for why its breaking, id be looking at just making the mounts stronger

If you had kept your wagon you wouldn't have this issue...

Maybe time to put more mounts in
Double it up! Is that the standard size whiteline bar Brad, whatever size that is, or did you get a fatter one made up? And has the fairmont got the gas tank in the back? I've been thinking with the extra weight from the tank I could use an even fatter bar. Supposedly whiteline can custom make you a bar for not that much more then an off-the-shelf item.

This is the off the shelf adjustable model. Its not even rigged up at full tension, i'd hate to imagine what damage I could do with it if I turned it up a little. Interestingly the side which broke this time is the opposite side to the one which has been repaired and welded back on nice and strong
But yes, I do have LPG in the back.. makes a big difference having that swaybar in. Without it the front pushes around, and I have to man handle the rear weight of the car when transfering left/right - also harder to maintain good drift angles
