{DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} seems the front bolt on this bracket has ripped out (so I guess the thread is ruined). Any ideas on what to do now? havn't driven much since I put it in (50km's maybe) and noticed when I was fitting the new mags. seems I'm just going from one problem to another at the moment! |

Are you sure that is the right sway bar for your car, ring up and check.
That isn't normal and without seeing more pictures etc I would guess it is the wrong sway bar or link rods, or both. (That bolt wasn't stripped when it was replace was it?) Very nasty but it doesn't look to hard to fix.

definately right bar, got the part number myself, double checked it when i rang them and ordered it.
my mate did that side. i just rang him up and he started laughing - seems he wasn't too happy about how that bolt was going in and so he drowned it in loctite aswell! so what do you reckon the solution is, drill the hole out, tap it and put a new larger bolt in? |

Same thing happened to me, i've also snapped the REAR swaybar mount clear off the chassis in my EB Sedan (twice - once each side!).
What do you expect to happen when you increase the anti-roll tension?

I'd use high tensile bolts and see what happens.

So what was the solution? Drill the holes out retap them with a bigger thread and jam a bigger bolt in there? I was thinking there might be enough room to get a new and washer up there otherwise. |

I was gonna suggest doubling up mounts, but a bigger bolt could work too.
Although I'm inclined to think this was merely a one off due to an existing weakness in the bolt. It's the same 30mm bar as I've got on mine, and I haven't had any problems with mounts. Mine cops a fair belting around too. High speed, mid corner bump type stuff. With the amount of negative camber I have, I have to drive hard or my tyres will wear unevenly... (Brilliant logic, I know)

Had this happen to me when just replacing the original rubbers with Nolethane ones. Usualy the bolts used have a slice out of them and they tend to clean the thread when put in,but if your not careful when putting them back they will ruin the thread. So over a period of time the threads will get buggered. I ground another nut down so it would fit between the old nut and the chassis. Works well. You could drill out the nut to the next size and tap it and use the next size bolt.
Also DON'T over tighten them, they need to just be tight. Overtightening is the next best way to bugger the thread

dylan - no, i wouldn't say it would be a 'regular' occurance - i did read brad (waggin) popped a swaybar mount quite a while ago - but besides that - not something that i hear or read about every week!
