its not the shifter itself but the rear of the box

from dansedgli :D

That pic is from an AU. In an E Series, the shifter location is approx 90mm back. In an EA-D the console can be shifted back, but in an EF/L the shifter sits right at the plastic between the cupholder and shifter area. EF and EL require you to use the Mal Wood box.

if thats the truth then the T56 is going to set me back alot of thousands

I'll find a pic of how it sits in an EL. The tailshaft will need modifying regardless, so if you by a Commodore box, a BA/F bellhousing and input shaft, it can be done that way. Just so you know, Holden T56 have a speedo gear location where Ford ones do not.

that would be great mate if you could find a pic id imagine someone would of done it at some point

what can i do about the speedo gear ?
thought speedo reading came from the rear wheels

to use the ba/bf box and bellhousing you will also need a ba flywheel and clutch, then a hydraulic cluch conversion...

To run a T56 you need a hydraulic clutch. Simple as that. I'll be throwing up a for sale thread in a few days of a complete T56 conversion, only catch is you have to take the whole BA.

Ok been reading this

Have started collecting odds and ends for a T56 conversion

So what box is easier fitted into the boxcars the commodore or BA to BF 6 speeds ?

I do not mind purchasing a entire BA-BF 6 speed wreck be ALOT cheaper that way

Use a VZ Commodore TUET6000 box. Change the input shaft and fit a Falcon 6 Bellhousing.

I pulled a VZ L76 with 6 Speed out yesterday.. threw a E-series T5 box next to it to compare and the VZ shifter is miles back..
