a 2 piece tailshaft has a centre CV joint, makes alot easier to balance as its shorter either side. Apparently earlier e series has double layer walls down the full length of the tail shaft, making alot stronger.

Ouch, nasty. Makes you think about flogging in down a quiet highway late at night.. your new driveline will include a tailshaft loop I assume :P

damn that sux, so the XR ECU has no limiter? i always pictured what a snapped tailshaft would be like

E series never had a double walled driveshaft, the only thing close as i covered earlier was some models had a 3 1/4" alloy shaft with a carbon fibre wrap. Holdens have the 2 pce with a centre CV and UJ on the rear. The Fords (BA onwards) 2 pce have a UJ in the centre and a CV on the rear but the FPV have a CV in the centre also. The 2pce for some E series pursuit cars had no CV's but a UJ in the centre and a Cardon joint on the rear. The 2 pce actually take longer to balance as there is 3 planes to balance.
Anyway i guess from this we have learnt one thing and thats not to tamper with safety features that reduce the integrity of the vehicle. Lucky it wasnt on the raod but in a controlled enviroment.

Thats totally crazy man, I did not like my car's going on the dyno with the standard tail shaft, thats why in mine I've got an XR8 one, But still, I'd rather a custom made one ... I know of someone on here who got a custom one made ... might chase that down and see where he got it done ..

ouch. Damn thats gonna hurt.
Not sure about the BTR trannies dude but seeing that the BA motors wont go into anything else without spending s**t loads. Maybe the BA security is liked to the trans and therefore wouldnt work.

What's this "double walled" s**t everyone is talking about?

To me "double walled" tube means telescopic tubing (where one tube is slid into another for increased strength and rigidity) and I don't see how that would work in a friggin tail shaft...

XR6T BTR's apparently only have kevlar bands anyway.
Probably too much f**k around/impossible trying to get a speedo signal with the BA BTR, so just get an E-Series trans with kevlar bands and a bigger trans cooler.

Its basically a standard 3" alloy tube that has been wrapped in carbon fibre making the tube more ridgid to stop flexing/bending at high speeds.

just quickly, i vaguely remeber from when i first joined to FM, that someone (i think waggin) was saying that the stocko bottom ends can only rev to about 6500 or so, then they will throw rods.

Just to keep in mind when increasing the rev limiter.

But thats crazy that tail shaft, but i cant beleive how thin it is!

Trust me we have all learnt from your misfortune albeit an expensive one.


However, is it true that XR6 and XR8 tailshafts are more robust in construction to cope with higher rpm/loads or are they steel ?
