They are 3 1/4" alloy with 2.3mm wall thickness. Alloy is more ridgid than steel and being alot lighter they have a greater reduction in flex at higher speeds than steel. This flexing is what causes the driveshafts to fail.

F**k, only 192. Then, in theory, a poorly balanced tailshaft could easily give way at 160-180. |

falcon_hell - yup, I would've expected more leeway in the engineering - or maybe mine was a poor example to begin with.
This EB shaft I saw, was indeed - telescopic as such - tube inside a tube, with a layer of some sort of adhesive or rubber between them - strange but true - funnily enough it was shagged to, but came from Jakes big turbo'd EB Fairmont. Good news, I've got a new passenger side airbag, Xr tailshaft (alloy, thicker as mentioned), and have a tranny coming in the mail all up <$800 so far, yet to see what else has been shagged (I still need to get exhaust redone). Hurry up weekend. I wanna get the car going again. (and nicco, I'll keep that 6500 figure in mind).

Just to keep in mind when increasing the rev limiter. yeah piston speeds are getting to what you might call stupid speeds at that sort of rpm 3909 ft/min at 6000rpm 4235 ft/min at 6500 4561 ft/min at 7000 |

i have an xr ecu in my gli, but as i've said before - im not going over 180 until i get an alloy tailsahft, and even then i still don't like the idea of going 180, even on a dyno.
that really sucks mate, hope you get it back on the dyno soon. what sort of power is it making with the cam?

Don't know. I'd assume so because it got the XR engine too. I can tell you how to find out

Yet somehow poeple think its safe to drive at 180kph+

s**t mate, that sucks big time, good tohear it was on the dyno, and no one got injured.
This has definetly given me second thoughts of trying to touch the 180km\h mark. Definetly will have to get some sort of stronger tailshaft in before i flogg her on the dyno/drags. Just a question is the fairlanes tailshaft any longer than the SWB XR's?? i dont think they are, but just wanna make sure.
