Hello Fordmods Members,
Is is good to see the site back again. My problem relates to a squeak coming from the rear driver's side wheel. I have a squeak that is irratic and very annoying and so far my mechanic has not been able to fix. The car in question is a 1991 Ford Fairmont Ghia in very good maintained condition for its age, serviced regularly. I have had the caplipers replaced, the rotors replaced, brake pads replaced, hand-brake and all associated hand brakes replaced and next Wednesday the car is going in once more for another diagnoses and hopeful fix. I spoke to the mechanic and he is at a quandery as to what is causing the noise. I have suggested that it maybe the wheel bearing - no. So have any of you had this problem and what did it end up being ?? |

Could be a bent axle.. does the squeak stop when you apply the brakes?

Thanks for the post. No it doesn't go away when the brakes are applied.

Yeah Elusiverunner could it be that some of the front end Suspension bushes are worn out maybe? I would be worried though that you dont have the right mechanic. ie; some mechanics know what to look for in Engine related problems and then you get some that no all about Brake and suspension problems. Cause otherwise you are going to just run up a big shopping list type Bill. And the mechanic will be the only one to benefit from it all. Cause after all he is still making money out you.

My Front suspension squeaks a lot, (Someone has said its the bushes, but its nothing except a little annoying when the windows are down at the moment so I'm not in a hurry. Especially after the head gasket )

Hi again and thanks for the replies.
First of all this is the rear wheel on the driver's side that is squeaking, and recently I have had the front bushes tie rods and all sorts repaired, but I appreciate the help. |

Does the car have hubcaps or mags?
If it has hubcaps check that it is not loose. My AUII drove me nuts for ages and I finally found it to be the hubcap. Problem with mine is that all hubcaps on the one wheel do it. Its as if the wheel is 1 or 2mm bigger than the rest

i have a similar problem on my ef gli. sometimes it'll squeek a little but it makes this sort of hissing noise as it turns and the noise is in corellation to the speed. thought it might have been warped pads or something but i can't figure it out.

All Falcons it seems tends to have a rear end squeak.. Just a Falcon thing which can be helped by greasing bushes or buying new ones. However I am not sure if this is your problem..

Thanks again everyone,
There are some very good diagnosis here. I have mags - they are the original ones that came with the car. I think they are called "snowflakes" They have a big cover over the wheel nuts, plastic I believe. The bushes have all been replaced. They watts link suspension has had the bushes replaced and it does sound like a rubber made squeak. |

Thanks
Hadn't tried that one. Will have a look, but it something that squeaks in correlation to the wheel turning. That is the faster the wheel turns the fast the squeak. |

well if its only wen the wheel is turning then it wont be the shocks.. maybe the pads need roughing up
