As i'm driving along, i get odd squeaks or squeals in the rotors, i was wondering what could be the cause of this, and is there a solution to it?

cheers

could be a few things......low disc pad warning clip, designed to be noisy when pads are low, over glazed disc pads...deglaze with a*** sand paper or replace with soft compound pads and if all faills with the pads we use to insert carbon sticks into the pads...thats another story how to do that..tom

My front right started doing something similar yesterday, not whilst under breaking the wheel sqeeks and squeals for a while then stops.
Same thing your talking about.
Or do you mean when breaking they squeel.

Have you changed the b/fluid????
Have you checked that the caliper slides aren't siezed???
Have you checked that the pad shims ( upper & lower ) are in place???
Have the pad shims been siliconed in place???
How are the wheel bearing adjustments???

the low pad warming clips will make a noise either under braking and not braking

brake dust can make it sqeal, jam a hose into ur wheel and flush caliper area

My Back ones tend to do it over the colder months... As the pad absorbs moisture they make noises when braking... Once you heat them up the moisture evaporates out of them and the noise goes away...

Other thing I've seen is the dust must them noisey... This is one advantage of slotted rotors as they help to throw dust out that gets caught under the pad... Blow them out maybe...

If the discs are glazed for lots of soft city braking them go out the road somewhere get to 100km/hr and stand on the pedal (don't lock the wheels obviously or you'll have flat spots, and make sure no prick will run up your a***, so be careful and vigilant)... This is called bedding in the pads... It helps to re-surface the pad and the rotor, takes the squeak out for a few months normally...

Depends what the problem is...

When was the last time the callipers had kits put through them?

Cheers,
Tim

Cheers for all the ideas i'll certainly be looking into all of them. But it's not so much the braking, it's more driving along and i get sqeaking in the rotors, i get the odd one when braking. But i'll still be checking everything thats been suggested, and once i get time to do this, i'll let you's know how it all goe. :)

Well my squeaking wheel turned into a lunging the car to the right wheel and a very dangerous to drive wheel. So I've booked her in this arve and see what's the go. I suggest getting yours checked asap because my car lunged right whilst overtaking on the highway. Nearly come a cropper or what ever the saying is.

Lol had this same problem, Brake dust? Or what happened with me the piston in the brake caliper wouldnt retract back far enough and would constantly squeel which got annoying after 5minutes of driving it and people looking at you strange  Clean it out with a hose for brake dust or just do what i did cuz mine was poo and change the brake caliper (pinched it off spare car) easy fix 5-10minutes

Or solve it altogether and put a caliper kits through them... that makes everything slide good then...

Cheers
Tim

one more thing u can do is glue the pads into the caliper to stop them dragging on the rotors, "CRC Disc Brake Quiet" red bottle. Good stuff, fixed a lot of complaints. On the VT-VX comm. we used to chamfer the edges on all the pads to stop the sqealing while driving, Holden wanted us to trial it, but this was never proven to be a fix, only temp. Aftermarket pads on commodores = no sqeaking.
Make sure ur calipers slides are well lubed - "Molycote 44 Medium"

my rear brakes were making the same sound as i went over bumps in the road so i repleced the two rear rotors and pads and problem solved, i think it was because of the wear on the rotor so every time i went over a bump the pad would rub up and down on the rotor causing it to make noise.

My brakes have an annoying continuos squeak every time one of the front wheels rotates cant figure witch one, ive tried that CRC brake quite glue on and behind the squeal pad and it didnt help. When i lightly brake it gets more constant and when i brake heavily it stops altogether. Something somewhere is touching it a tiny bit and its doing my head in! All of my pads are in great shape too
