At all times whilst driving or in neutral, there is a constant squeaking noise that is gradually getting louder. When I apply the smallest amount of pressure, the squeaking stops. Also, if I stick my foot under the clutch pedal and lift it up it stops as well. But whenever my foot is nowhere near it, it drives me nuts!

I've had this problem since I bought the car, but it wasn't there for a short while after getting the clutch changed on warranty a week after I bought it. Not long after, the squeak came back and I was told it could have something to do with the flywheel.

When I got the work done a few weeks back I had a Mal Wood flywheel and clutch kit fitted and it's still squeaking. It was doing it from the day I got it back. Does anyone know what this could be and how I go about fixing it???

is it mabye the pedal box bending or maybe the clucth fork is stuffed but thats just a gess
my ef did it when you put your foot on the clutch pedal

Get under the car while its in neutral/motor running and check for excessive clutch fork vibration. Hold the clutch fork firmly by hand and see if the squeeking noise stops.

Ive got the same issue at the moment, along with heavy & grinding clutch pedal.

Ive been told the thrust bearing could be shagged, so im replacing the thrust and spigot bearings, and bought a new clutch fork @ $162 from Fraud, as there is no aftermarket part for this.

i had an EF XR8 doing the same. i found the spring was missing from the clutch pedal to the floor, the one that keeps the free travel out of the pedal..
Hooked that back up, and it got rid of the noise..

Thanks for the replies guys. It's not missing a spring at the pedal. Will check the clutch fork in the next couple of days. I dunno how I'm going to get under it though! :)

I know they changed the thrust bearing out when they fitted the clutch. There was only one bearing they didn't change and I can't remember the name of it. I hope thats not f**k.

Most likely spigot bearing, cant see them making the effort to change it.

spigot bearing takes 5 mins to replace when you have access. I cant see it making that noise though.

Oh yeah definately not the spigot making all the noise, but it'd be the bearing that they were talking bout not replacing.

if your clutch has gone all stiff and hard, you most likely have a cracked firewall, check it out for any cracks, because eventially it will pull through... very common problem on manual e series cars.

If its making a squeaking noise when not engaged. I reckon it'll be the thrust bearing. Mine had the same thing, but was all good when i replaced the clutch, and thrust bearing.

Make sure the clutch pedal is adjusted correctly - can cause a lot of issues if it isn't.
140+-3mm from floor carpet to pedal rubber front face. Normally this has it inline with the brake pedal, or slightly higher.
You can drop the clutch pedal down to suit, but try not to to go too higher, as pedal overtravel will damage the pressure plate eventually.
The E series clutch system has zero clearance between the thrust bearing and pressure plate. The bearing though needs to only have light pressure against the PP.

The thrust bearing was replaced with clutch. I think snap may be onto something as I think the clutch is considerably higher than the brake. Do you mean the bearing needs only light pressure against pp at all times, or it only needs light pressure against the pp to f**k it?
