i recently changed the front pads on my AU fairmont now theres a squealing sort of sound coming from the brakes. it goes away when im turning and braking. Its fairly loud i can hear it comfortably when my windows are down and friends have told me they could hear it when they are driving beside me so im pretty keen to get it fixed. does anyone have any ideas as to what it is?

I know this isnt helping but i too have an awful squeel that comes from the front brakes usually when the pads and discs are cold I think, its loud as well, checked the pads and theyre so full of meat no way it can be that.. I think were on the same wavelength.

When you changes you pads, were the rotors machined? IF you don't machine the rotors then you need to de-glaze the rotor surface with some emery. Over time the rotors get very smooth and can cause the pads to squeal

try some anti-squeal paste/spray on the back of each pad

Yeah you definatly should use anti squeel on the back of your pads. It stops them moving/ vibrating which causes the squeeling noise. I used it on the weekend when l changed my pads and rotors and dont have any prob's anymore.

i had the same problem and i thought it was the front brakes but it ended up being my back rotors where both undersize. Ford put in new back rotors and pads and fixed the problem straight away, and havent had a problem since.
Just my 2 cents

Speaking of brake squeal, can someone explain to me why my front brakes squeel when I take a corner?
My front right (i think the left is fine) rotor is slightly warped (I can feel it in the peddle) - and because of this I get a squeel when I brake lightly, and when I take a corner. I can understand why it squeels under light braking, but why when I take a corner and no brake pressue is being applied? Does the car automatically apply brakes to the inner wheel when it takes a corner? I didnt think the pov-pack falcons were that advanced. |

No they're not, none are.
They'd be some 'play' in the tolerances allowing the bad to make slight contact with the disc. Or it may be somethign else altogether causing the noise - bearings maybe.
