Basically what do i need too fully convert the fairmont to SSPS. I am running the EL GHIA 6DJA ecu and i have found the SSPS plug on the loom......

I'm pretty sure the only thing you need is the SSPS rack.

From memory for the SSPS conversion you need:
EL Ghia ECU (You have it) SSPS Loom (You have by the sounds of it) SSPS Power steering Lines SSPS Rack. All those things you should be golden, and I would recommend a wheel alignment after a rack change. There the items I had to change when I installed it in my ED when I did the EL Conversion, I think you can still use your existing PS pump, im using an AU2 one on mine  .Any other questions just ask  Kyle

You don't need the SSPS lines....
Have just done this in my ED with EL K frame. As you have everything there but the rack, you are good to go. Have a look here for my saga: the-garage-f53/rd-s-edl-hybrid-wagon-t65695-480.html When it comes time to connect the lines do this: The pressure line from the pump goes in the "upper" hole, the return line goes in the "lower" hole. This is looking down from the engine bay. In my standard EL setup the lines ended up crossed unlike a stock setup. Just remember to bleed the rack before adding too much fluid - simply fill about half way, start the car and let it fill the rack, add another 1/2 tank and turn the wheels between the bumps stops a couple of times. Centre the rack as much as possible and connect the steering shaft. Fill fluid reservoir all the way. Would probably pay to replace your tie rod ends while your at it, just as insurance - they are cheap. Then hurry off for a wheel alignment, noting how cool the SS rack is  Cheers RD

Needed rack, lines and fluid - thats it. New tie rod ends would be worth the extra $50 seeing as your paying for an alignment anyways. Don't need the Ghia ECU (which you have anyways) as all Fairmont and Wagon ECU's are already SSPS enabled. I also have an SSPS rack at home if you are looking for one, with the lines.

I do not have any problems with the lines at all. I also know a_total_tool ordered a new line from Ford and got given a "standard" one. The difference in line placement is negligible, if anything the mounting loop that holds the lines down to the K frame has to be moved a little.....

Unless there was some changeover somewhere along the line. Fairmont sedans and all wagons that used a 3.23 diff used a Fairlane ECU, which is SPSS enabled. I've actually pulled codes from wagon ECU's complaining about missing SPSS as well, as well as the factory manual states to ignore the code unless its a Ghia, Lane or LTD. |

My wagon fits the specs - no cigar for code 796, although as you'd know the SSPS solenoid plug and wiring are there.
No code with the EL Tickford LPG ECU's either - being GLI based.

So your saying that the 1998 GLi ECU I have from the original EL wagon (which is/was a 3.23) has SSPS enabled and Fairlanes ran this ECU? When I get my wagon back, I'll chuck it in and see if you're right.....
