i have a stage 2 shift kit on my EL...4 spd auto trans...

i want to get more of a jump off the line...what steps can be taken to get this???

i know my car has a high first gear so we dont exactly gun it off the line but i know a diff gear ratio would. Would i have to get a new shift kit to get the ratios i want or can i just take it in the shop and get them to change it??

as far as i know you cannot change the ratios inside teh gearbox

the best bet is a shorter diff ratio ( higher number )
ie 3.45:1 or 3.9:1

at the moment i would guess you EL has a tall/long diff ratio ( low number ) 3.08:1

you can get teh 3.45 lsd diffs second had usally some shops may sell new, but no idea in SA

the shift kit will be fine with the new diff ratios but u will need to change the spedo sender driven gear to match the new ratio or the spedo will be out and this will affect when the box shifts

yeah as frank said, change the diff ratio's. 3.9's work well with the falcon 4 speeds while still maintaining decent highway rpm. If you want a bit more off the line after a ratio change you can also put in a histall converter, something arond 2500-3000 rpm also work really well on the 6's

well for the last week i have taken the economy switch off and really felt her go... it seems that she has better throttel response and more of a jump off the line now and ive got no idea why...

economy is only meant to longer the gear changes so im kinda stumped as to why i have seen an increase in power.

also at the moment my gearbox redlines at 3rd... i think...maybe second...80% sure its 3rd...il check next time im driving her

but yeh overall since ive taken that damn switch off i have loved me car so much more...power output is gre8 :)

its a cog with teeth that goes into the side of the gearbox which sends a signal to the dash cluster

Your car is probly going harder because your driving it harder, dont no if its true but when ever i drive my car hard it seems to run good for while, like everything has been cleaned out or somthing and its just running smooth and responsive.

Also does the stage 2 shiftkit chirp into 2nd? And are the stages just low and high?
