Hi all! Been a while since i've posted. Still plugging away at the EF.
I have been meaning to replace the intermediate shaft for some time due to a sloppy uni joint and my mechanic has finally pulled me up on it during a pink slip inspection. I plan to try and find a decent 2nd hand one but I remember the wreckers telling be there are a few different ones for the EF last time I made enquiries (number of splines to be exact). Is this correct? If so, is there a way of indentifying which model had what type or do I need to bring the shagged one with me? Any help would be muchly appreciated - Ryan.

The number of splines is to do with the end that fits onto the rack's spline....easy to see the difference...one is really a***, the other is really fine......most are a*** spline.

So, which has the corse spline, and which the fine??
Looking at the parts diagram above, both have the same part number, except for the V8's, which I think is the addition of the heat shield |

If it's for an EF 6 cyl, get the same - they are a fine spline, they're also longer than an EL which is a*** spline.

Cheers guys!
Ended up taking the shagged one to the wreckers and got the correct one. The reason why I wanted to know is that I had to pull it apart in the mechanics car park due to time and work restrictions which I felt a bit rude doing... Oh well. Got it done. The only other thing is the damn air bag light wont go off even after trying to reset the stupid thing a million times by earthing the pin (fourth from the left top row).... Thanks again!

Great that you got it done But is it a big job to replace ? as for some reason i believe the uni joint in mine is quite worn |

Lift the bottom off the rack and pull the top away from the firewall, comes out as a complete Shaft + uni. Note: The bolts have to be all the way out as the splines have a groove that the thread of the bolt sits in so they dont come apart if the bolts work loose.
