Yes i did a search. No i couldnt find what i needed.

Now with that out of the way :P we can get on with the business. I sent my car in for a wheel alignment today with pedders and found that a bunch of the front end bushes are shagged, as is the steering rack.

Bushes i am fine with sorting myself, but i'm not sure what involved with changing a steering rack.

Do i need any special tools? Any tricks that will make it easier?

And also does anyone know where i can get one? I would prefer new so then i dont have to worry about it again, but reco is good too. Any ideas on how much? Pedders wanted $422 for a brand new one supplied.

Steering rack change is as much common sense as technical. I don't know where Peddars can get a NEW rack as they have been obsolete from Ford for a LONG time, can't actually tell you if the Ford reco ones are still available but I guess they can still be sourced.

I found one on Ebay that is available from here in Sydney. It is $220.00 reco and from a reputable people.

I was thinking Pedders would just reco racks.

Usually an easy job, with the problem being lack of room to move most of the time. Never done one in a falcon.

Basically you undo the column from the rack, undo the rod ends from the hubs, undo the fluid lines carefully so you don't mangle the soft fittings, then undo the mounting bolts and drop the rack.

Good idea to swap the rod ends, balljoints etc if not included new.

Time and again pedders seem overpriced.

Apparently Pedders have bought out a steering rack manufactoring plant, i was told that that plant only done holden steering racks and when pedders bought them out that started making Ford and other car manufacturer steering racks.

No worries Nicco. I tried to send you a PM tonight but for some reason it didn't work

I can get what you want for a delivery charge of $25.00. Let me know what you want to do ok?
The genuine reco steering unit is about $600.00 and they are done in Melbourne. I think the one from Sydney would be ok.
