Yesterday I was changing extractors on my ba xr6 as my old ones were cracked.
I disconnected the steering shaft/ intermidiate shaft to make room the extractors and
when I went to put it back together I found that my steering wheel is not straight
when the wheels are (about 45 degrees out)
What do I have to do to correct this

Straighten your front wheels, disconnect the steering shaft, and put it back together on the nearest spline when the steering wheel is in the normal position. It's a lot easier than pulling the steering wheel and airbag off.

As a rule of thumb, you should always put an alignment mark on parts that need to be reassembled in the same location. Could use some paint, a scratch mark or a felt tip marker.

It seems that the shaft only goes on to the rack one way, but it came off
fine so it should go back as it was. Wish I put steering lock on before I pulled

All sorted, I straightened the wheels, disconnected the steering shaft and got the steering wheel
straight and got someone to hold it there, you have to push the steering shaft up
and you can move it around where you need it, once in the right position move it back down
and it locks into splines then reconnect it to steering rack.
