I got my starter and alternator on my xr8 done recently...ford wanted $800 for a alternator and $1100 for a starter. Ford employee price was $800 for the starter....how ridiculous is that!

Just to add to my post... the switch I got looks to me lot stronger than the original, the spring large and the spring base is better.

burdeaux95 you probably got the heavy duty one which they made for taxi's - which I the last one I got since I had already gone through a couple of regular ones!

will see how long it will last, I need a good one, I'm using a electronic brake control for my caravan, would not like it to fail at the wrong moment.

That's Ford for ya.
I read a week or 2 ago that Ford spare parts want $400 for 24Lb injectors. $400 EACH! You can get the exact same injectors from FRPP in the US for around that price, after freight and the taxes. Henry Ford himself one said they could give their cars away with the money they make from spare parts. |

Re:- the post last year about this, the switch I bought last year from Repco failed on me when I was pulling the caravan lucky the van was only a small one. Got another switch from Burson for $20 and taken it home and it stamped NICE (the make) the same I got from Repco, but this time it was in a Ford box. It stamped "BS60A".

the ford switches are alot more expensive, $40, but i can tell everyone here that they are of much better build qaulity and last alot longer than the $10 repco ones, don't know abt the other bursons one, we have a au taxi and it ate thru 3 repco switches in less than 4 months and the ford ones lasted 6 months minimum, the current ford one is 1 year and counting.

Mate, maaate,
every ef/el ford should be recalled and fixed so that the brake lights either work or some warning is given to the driver. It just amazes me that there is so much acceptance of this utterly dangerous fault that they continue to travel on our roads. Just wonder how many needless rear endings and associated injuries have occured due to such a s**t and neglegant design. This problem seems a little like that film (loosly based on a true story) where a car would explode if turning left and hit from behind - was that car made by ford ? Cheers |

I'm replacing one of these (S80's) a year, just over the 20k warranty. I figure it's still better value than the genuine ford part which I originally replaced with a genuine ford part which didn't last much longer. I'll look out for a bs60a. Quite disappointing to look at the niceproducts catalog with two items on the front cover, one of them being this switch. I wonder how many of them they turnover. Guess what make of car I'm going to avoid next time. What's the point of 3 brake lights which fail very rarely, when there's a switch that fails regularly.

Hi I'm back with the report re: the stoplight switch, the one I bought last year about in may it's still going so the Burson one is good stuff.
